It sounds ridiculous. But when a mainframe crack shows up on a machine with clean oil and good wear parts, the first thing we ask for is a foundation survey. We once traced a mainframe crack to a 2–3 mm level deviation on a crusher mounted with rubber dampers. Everyone blamed the casting. The casting was doing exactly what the misaligned foundation forced it to do.
